The world’s only chicken has been shown the door at an Australian zoo, after a trainer discovered he was unable to swim.
The chicken, a female, was found to be unable to dive underwater and needed to be sedated before being allowed to leave the enclosure.
“I had to sedate her a few times and then let her go,” trainer and former breeder Paul Williams said.
She was very unhappy and wasn’t even getting up when we first got her out of the cage, so I’m very relieved she’s out now.” “
We’ve tried every method of restraint and paddling, and she still can’t swim.”
She was very unhappy and wasn’t even getting up when we first got her out of the cage, so I’m very relieved she’s out now.
“Williams is now considering releasing the chicken into a larger, larger enclosure.
He has been training for several years to get the bird to swim, but is struggling to find the right amount of time to do so.
The trainer said he had no idea that the chicken would have such an extreme inability to swim until he saw her being moved into the enclosure from a larger enclosure after just two weeks.
After a week in the large enclosure, the chicken was able to jump in and out of a swimming pool, but the trainer said the water was too shallow for the chicken to swim properly.
Williams said the female was just too stressed and had a sore back and neck.
It was the first time he had ever seen a chicken unable to do swimming in his life, and the trainer has had no regrets about allowing the bird out of her enclosure.
