A 15-year-old girl drowned while playing in a swimming pool at a Florida high school, police said Friday.
The girl’s mother and stepfather were arrested and charged with child neglect, authorities said.
Her body was recovered Saturday, authorities told Fox News.
Police said the teen was left in a pool for three hours Friday when a friend left her in the pool while the family was watching TV.
The friend told police that she did not want to leave her in a water hazard and she wanted to go to the park, police Capt. Joe McElwee said.
A passerby called 911 and the family and the boy went to the pool, he said.
The boy said he tried to get the water out but it was too dark.
A woman came to help and then the boy told her he needed to go back in the house to be with her, McElwane said.
Police found the boy in the swimming pool, and the girl was found about 1:30 p.m. in the bathroom of a nearby home.
McElwerne said the girl’s father was taken into custody.
He was charged with manslaughter and is scheduled to appear in court in Miami.
The girl was a freshman at Northland High School in Port St. Lucie, Fla., a spokeswoman said.
